Grow Fresh Greenhouse Fruits and Vegetables

Do you enjoy a stress free and relaxing environment? How about the incredible taste of home grown fresh fruits and vegetables? Beautiful fresh cut flowers everyday for your house?
If you do enjoy all these things then you would love a greenhouse. There is such joy, a sense of accomplishment and it is such a relaxing atmosphere in a greenhouse. You might even feel better with the warmth and moisture in a greenhouse, I do.

It doesn't matter your age, gardening is for everyone. Young kids to grandparents alike enjoy picking that tomato or pulling up that carrot and eating it fresh out of the garden. Or bringing in those beautiful flowers for everyone to enjoy.

There is a learning experience for the young and old in growing something from seed. Learning how to care for the different plants and then doing it! So when it is time to pick or pull or cut your plants you can say that you grew it from a seed!

Have you ever had a home grown tomato? How about home grown corn? Yes, you can even grow corn in a greenhouse if it is big enough. You can set up a bed right on the greenhouse floor and grow it there. I have had fresh grown tomatoes and corn along with many more home grown vegetables and I can say that there is nothing to compare to it!

It is not hard to grow vegetables, fruits and even flowers in a greenhouse. It just takes a little time and patience.

There are things to look at when deciding where to set up your http://your-greenhouse-location.blogspot.com/. You want a place that has good drainage and is level. A big thing to remember is you want the south sun with no winter obstructions so you can get all the sun available in the winter. Shade from leafy trees in the summer is a good idea to help keep the greenhouse cooler.

Now you can decide which kind of greenhouse design you want. Glass, fiberglass, plastic (which is becoming the most popular and the least expensive) are the usual types but there are more types out there to fit just about any ones needs. The design will be something you need to decide on and how it will fit in with your landscaping. When it comes to building your greenhouse you have choices which include buying a greenhouse kit, or a manual on how to build your own greenhouse or you can pay a professional to build one for you. I guess which one you choose will depend on your skills and pocket book.

Then you will have choices of heating. Water (heated by the sun), gas, electric or solar. Solar is pretty expensive but if you plan on having a greenhouse for a long time it would pay for it's self especially with the price of everything going up and solar would be better for the environment. At this time I go between electric and water because we live in the Northwest and we can go days with out seeing the sun. You may have to do the same thing if you live in an area where you have limited sun for long stretches at a time.

You also have ventilation to think of. I am totally for the automatic hydraulic vent system that is activated by a thermostat or by beeswax (I haven't personally tired this one but is supposed to work) that when it heats up it expands and pushes up the hydraulic arm which opens the vent. Whichever automatic system you use, when the temperature goes up the vents open and as the temperature cools off the vent closes. Make sure your system is set up to open and close at whatever temperature you want. You can also choose to regulate the temperature by hand which is more time consuming but for those who like it and are home this will work.

Watering can be done either by hand or the drip system which can be put on an automatic timer so you don't have to worry about watering. This leaves you with a lot more time for gardening.

Now that you have your greenhouse ready, it is time to plant. Produce is my favorite thing to plant. Because not only do you get to see your plants grow from seedlings or starter plants into mature plants but you get to eat your produce! Plan for root plants using a deeper bed. Some plants do better in a tub and all plants need plenty of room.
